The Gospel of Luke tells a story where two disciples are walking along the road to Emmaus. On this road, though they could not recognize him, they were joined by Jesus who walked and talked with them while pointing to scripture. When they reached their destination, the disciples invited this stranger in for a meal and to spend the night. While they were at the table, Jesus took the bread, gave thanks, broke it, and began to give it to them. At that moment, their eyes were opened and they recognized him. They, then, asked one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the scriptures to us?”
Our goal with IGNITE comes out of the journey on the road to Emmaus. We want our youth to be passionate followers of Christ, earnestly walking with him, diving into scripture, and being transformed by having our eyes opened to what God is doing in, around, and through their lives. It is our hope that we would see a burning passion inside of each person in our ministry because Christ is at the center, and that this passion would move us to actively pursue God’s call on our lives.
